To all students.

As some of you are aware, there are some significant changes in store for the school in the upcoming year. I have always hoped that the time would come when more of our students could come for the powers training they need, then return to their homes to complete their education in their own communities where they could serve as positive examples for other young people, both mutant and not. I believe that things here in the United States have progressed to the point where that is possible for at least a good portion of our students. Consequently, I have been in touch with many of your families to begin discussing the situation.
I do want to stress that the school will not be closing. It is true that the student body will likely be considerably smaller than it has been in past years, but I expect the school to continue in full operation, offering the same range of opportunities to students as it always has. Some of you require more extensive training, or do not have the necessary support to return home to your own communities; others may simply find the environment here at the school more to their liking, for one reason or another. All of you are welcome to stay if you choose. It is my hope that if you do, you will also benefit from the opportunities provided by the Institute. There are potentially some very exciting possibilities for you, not just for our staff and resident graduates.
Finally, I would like both staff and students to join me in thanking Mr. Summers and Ms. Munroe for their years of devoted service as your headmaster and headmistress. Because the student body will be smaller, and because the bulk of the work involved in setting up the Institute is now drawing to a close, I will be taking up that role once more after the end of this term. I look forward to becoming re-involved in the everyday life of the school. Scott and Ororo have carried a very heavy burden of responsibility for a long time, and done so admirably. I hope that they will now have the time and energy necessary to pursue more of their own goals.
