xp_journalRecent events may have led some of you to believe that underage drinking is condoned at this school.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Whatever your personal beliefs about responsible drinking, the law currently stipulates that only those persons over the age of 21 may legally consume alcohol, and there exists no compelling reason to disobey it; if you wish this law to be changed, civil disobedience is unlikely to leave you in an effectively persuasive state. And, in fact, a few of you have amply demonstrated that even if the law were changed tomorrow, you are not yet mature enough to responsibly regulate your consumption.
Piotr, I am particularly disappointed in you; whatever the mores of your culture regarding alcohol, you are certainly old enough to recognize that the culture in which you are living has different standards. If you wish yours to be respected, it behooves you to respect ours. You, Warren, Angelo, Sarah, and Clarice are restricted to campus for one week, and may consider yourselves at Mr. Marko's disposal for any task to which he sees fit to set you.
Furthermore, alcohol is not, in fact, permitted to be stored in the student dormitories, precisely because of this sort of temptation; Piotr, you have been here long enough to be aware of this policy. There is a locked storage cabinet in the kitchen where the remainder of your vodka can be stored. Please meet me there at your earliest opportunity.
For a number of reasons, the students of this school enjoy a much greater degree of freedom than might be found at other such institutions. I hope all of you will bear in mind that this does not mean that such leniency may be freely abused; in fact, I expect you to comport yourselves with a proportionately greater sense of personal responsibility.
I hope you will also bear in mind that if this incident is repeated, the consequences will be more severe. While it would be less than prudent to repeat my mother's remedy for unlawful drunkenness--no matter how effective I found a night as the sheriff's guest to be--I am certain I will be able to think of something equally unpleasant.
