I hereby demand DNA confirmation before I will believe someone is dead.

I barely know Mark, but I am very, very, very glad that he's alive. I think I shall sign up for a Marathon in his honor.

Hey, I know a guy at school who can get us Dixie Chicks tickers for this weekend.

interested?

(and being not-dead is a good thing).

Saturday in the city. we could make a day of it. Celebrate Mark's not-deadness.

(the alternative is not something I care to think too much on)

but with traffic and dinner and whatever, we should really leave earlier.

Tabby, you're beginning to worry me. I see you run at night too and a marathon?

If I can take a day off and relax, you can too.

Sure, trying to lose the baby weight was the same way, but don't overdo it and hurt yourself either. The key to moderation...is moderation.

Fine. No Italian. There's a Lebanese place near the concert. I've never had Lebanese. Have you?

As I said to Julio, DNA confirmation takes at least five days and tends to need a sample from a close relative, like a parent or sibling. We didn't have the time or the sample (hell, Mark doesn't even talk about his family) so we had to go on the rest of the evidence. Like the iPod embedded in the body.

Can we leave it at that now? It's not like we went through the grief process for shits and giggles, you know.

I think you're missing the point here, Amanda. Everyone is relieved that Mark is alive. Are you the only one allow to celebrate that? No one's saying that you did anything wrong. Get over yourself already.

It'd be easier to see it as people being relieved if there were less demands for solid proof of someone being dead, like we were trying to trick people or something.

But point taken. Go, celebrate, I'm off to the hospital.

Christ, how do you get through the day with that chip on your shoulder?

They're not demanding anymore than Betsy was demanding chocolate mint cookies. It's just a twisted expression of thank god he's not dead. Call it reverse gallows humor.

Again, as I said on Julio's journal, my parents were on on a plane that sank into the ocean, in pieces, and their bodies have not been recovered. To allow myself to believe that they are alive would not be the proper way for me to view what happened. The chance that they survived such destruction, although perhaps not impossible, is not likely at all.

I don't think I want to run the marathon with you, but can I tag along with you while you're practicing? :) I need to get back into a regular exercise schedule. :)
