The George Washington Bridge was destroyed an hour ago. They don't know how many people were still on it trying to evacuate.

Jennie was on the bridge. She tried to buy people time to escape. But she didn't make it off.

Her sister just arrived, and she's in hysterics. She and two friends were there, Jennie gave them her phone and sent them here. They saw her go down with the bridge. Whatever attacked it, Jennie bought people time to escape.

Apologies, but unless we are definitively, undeniably in possession of a corpse, preferably one which has passed positive DNA identification, I choose to hold this news in abeyance. We are, after all, X-Men. Thin a hope as it may be, it is for the time being that which I prefer to hold to.

Besides, in the event the worst has not, in fact, occured, Jen would be most put out to learn I at any point believed she could conceivably be done in by a bridge.

You know, I hope it's not like it looks. But I have a job to do and there's not a lot of time for hope right now. You and Manny can be in charge of hope.

I do not intend to tell her to discount the evidence of her own eyes. However, I do intend to point out that, under the circumstances, perhaps that evidence is not as damning as first thought. Because, in spite of all the world apparently going to hell, the provision of hope should still be done. Particularly when all the world is going to hell.
