Apocalypse

Apocalypse is now in SHIELD custody, charged with a list of crimes that took most of the field office to write it all up. It'll be a while before he goes to trial anywhere; there's overlapping jurisdictions involved, and they won't move him until they've got a solid analysis of his powers so he can't pose a danger to the court or be an escape risk. Safe to say, it's very unlikely he'll be anywhere other than a cell for the rest of his life.

Mr. Kane? What happened? The news just keeps running the same grainy footage over and over.

In two words? We happened. In more than two words, Apocalypse and his Horsemen got taken down by certain mutants of your acquaintance (including the New Mutants girls with Famine, way to go team!) as well as the good people of New York, Apocalypse's power apparently runs off people believing in him and so by the end, he was pretty much beaten before anyone had to lay a punch. Not that that didn't stop some. *wry* Then as Garrison said, he arrested the bastard and he's banged up in a cell for the duration.

Until he inevitably escapes and we get to do this all over again. Go team.

Well, that could have been dealt with, only that's not what you X-Men do, right?

Don't blame me. Your friends were there, too, and had as much opportunity as the rest of us did.

So we're there to do your dirty work? Nice. And what would have happened if one of us had tried? X-Men don't kill, but they stand around and watch while someone else does?

Now, here's a conversation that's just all kind of productive.

Or they stand around and punch them when they're down. There's my two cents.

It's funny, but I don't recall you having a better idea as to how to counter his power at the time, Guthrie. Also, those who want to cling to the niceties of morality would be best-advised not to volunteer to go into war zones.

Oh god, stop agreeing with me. It makes me depressed when we come to the same conclusions.

Well, we can't have that.

I know. I think I need to get myself checked for a concussion or something.

I didn't say aything about getting him down. but keeping him down when he's already not going to move, well, yeah, then there's a problem. It isn't clinging to 'nicesties of morality' but knowing when to stop.

I would ask you just when he was down for the count, then, based on your extensive experience in such situations, but I don't think even today I could do that with a straight face.

By standers don't need to have 'extensive experience' to know when someone's done. Stop rubbing that in, just because I'm not on some "Fuck yeah Team America" doesn't mean I can't see when the people I know fly off the bend.

This was a guy who was responsible for destroying who knows how many square blocks of real estate in one move, raising a skyscraper from the ruins, and survived the collapse of said skyscraper.

I for one am not going to apologize for whatever level of force it took to take him down. The argument of "excessive force" is a luxury that a lot of people don't have, on account of the fact that this crazy bastard and his people executed them in an act of outright genocide.

As to whether or not Apocalypse himself should have been put down - after what he took, I'm not certain that's even possible. But I'm sure SHIELD will make the call on that one.

Yeah but there's force and then there's enough, you know? Compassion and excessive force don't share the same sentence, but to me, compassion should come out on top.

I know I'm not much of a fighter but I was weirded out by how much a lot of people enjoyed themselves in the heat of the moment.

There's a difference between "making sure someone who's intending to harm you stays down" and "sadistically enjoying it".

I'm not saying there aren't people who fall into the latter category. But don't tar everyone with the same brush. It was hell out there, and that kind of thing gets into your head.

Squire, I strongly suspect it was you who cost me the shot at ending him - it was someone airborne and on fire at any rate who knocked the masonry down and gave him a chance to escape - that I spent two days setting up.

I don't blame you - the whole situation was a mess, and you had no way of knowing I was there, and it's too easy to play "should have" after the fact. But I would take it as a kindness if you did not cast aspersions on the rest of my people for not doing a thing you did not do yourself.

I didn't belittle any of your people. I meant that no one made what was arguably the right decision, so your little girl should not be holding the X-Men culpable for anything.

I think Amanda's point was rather that for some of the people present, it wasn't a matter of making the decision, it was a matter of not wanting to put others who would not make the same decision in a very awkward position, so hearing it complained about by some of the people whose feelings they thought were respecting is a bit unexpected.

Obviously, I have nearly strained something trying to phrase that politely.

"Sucky" is a matter of personal perspective, I've found. Being alone and trying to get home in the middle of a war zone is pretty bloody sucky, especially if you're not used to that sort of thing. Whereas sewer-crawling with flesh golems after you is on par with Nazis made of bees for some: sucky, but something to be dealt with if you want to keep doing your job. Which is to say, good for you for making it back in one piece without any kind of backup.

I wasn't in a war zone. I was just in Brooklyn.

...I guess that's kinda the same thing?

Flying home isn't hard or anything.

At the time? Sure it was - refugees, overcrowding, fights breaking out. Doesn't have to have bullets flying to be a war zone.

Tho', yeah, Brooklyn's a bit dodgy at the best of times. ;)

Relax, I'm trying to be supportive here. 'Course, you probably don't know me from a bar of soap, but the thought counts, right?

Bugger, just had a thought - anyone know what happened to the mini-bus? Please tell me it isn't trashed. Losing my car was bad enough. :(

Yeah...nothing like that happened to me. I was just there for a while until I got tired of it and wanted to go home.

Thanks though.
