And following on Ali announcing fun comes the obligatory work to get there.

Last year when we did this (for the 4th I think), there was much pitching in. All I made was pies. I think fondly of that time before I let the whole culinary training thing slip. (Looking back, I discover that I was attempting to only bake on special occasions. This is quite amusing.)

Anyway, I'm calling for volunteers both cooking (I'm looking at you, Jamie. I don't grill. Bobby, ice cream?) and grocery shopping (I'm, well, actually I'm still looking at you, Jamie. Extraordinarily useful, you are.)

Your pie choices are apple, peach, cherry, strawberry, chocolate and lemon meringue. Pick four.

Other menu type things are up for grabs. Volunteer away, people, lest I come find you and make you volunteer.

Already volunteered to grill and grocery shop in Alison's post, slowpoke.

And anybody who wants me to grill specific things, line forms on the left, with the caveat that anything that comes from a pig is getting grilled on a whole other grill using a different set of utensils, so don't go overboard with the wanting of pork chops and things.

I vote for apple, cherry, chocolate, and lemon meringue. And Lorna, you kept that secret really, really badly for someone who said she only wanted to bake for special occasions. :)

She was also the one who went and told me you had chef training when I was making a complete idiot of myself about the menu last August, so, yeah, blame her. :)

Yes. Kitty'll be in Chicago. We're also missing both birthdays.

When she gets back, you get free reign on that dinner.

You have all summer to plan. I'm thinking, feed her so well that the positive feedback echoes up the line of descent and convinces her parents never to yank her home without warning like that ever again.

As long as I still have time to 1. practice for Monday and 2. Chase down my boyfriend for some long-overdue time alone, I am happy to help.

I can do that.

Maybe a few kinds of fruit salad, in case of allergies?

I ain't much on the cooking (pretty much if it comes in a tin, I've got it covered, but that's about it), but if you need a dishwasher, I'll volunteer. Got practice after the frog thing, after all... ;)

You know which pie I'm going to pick. It's the same one Scott will pick. Bake an extra Strawberry for us Summerses please. and I'd volunteer to help cook but I know you'd just chase me out (is it beaucse I can't cook or because I'd be a distraction...hmmm...) but I can help with grocery shopping. Not as useful as Jamie, but I'm not one to let my girl down.

My vote's for apple, peach, chocolate, and lemon meringue.

Sure, tomatos, lettuce, onions, plus a plate of pickles, rellish, and olives very doable.
