Well, everyone, it looks like we're having a rough weekend. Luckily, it's my day off (I do take them occasionally) and if anyone wants to pile in the minivan with two kids who didn't sleep last night and the librarian, I'm sure we can hit something resembling civilisation in, oh, half an hour. I'll even buy lunch.

As long as you don't mind me taking off when we get there, if anybody else ends up going. You and the kids, I can handle... just not sure if being around anyone else is a good idea right now.

Can't promise no one else, kiddo, but I'll be trying to steer the conversation away from topics that will mean another night of crying and "We need more ice cream, it helps us sleep", if you know what I mean. ;) But once we're there, you should do what you feel you need to -- I'll give you my cell number so you can find everyone when you're ready.

Thanks for the offer, Shan, but I think Angie's not in much of a mood to be social, so I think we're going to head into the city to do some Halloween shopping on our own.
