All right. Some of you little monsters may have noticed that it's spring again around here. That means everything's nice and green, and it's also nice and growing. Which in turn means there's a couple hundred acres of lawn out front and back that need mowing. Since at last count we have a wolf, a cat, a dragon and now a monkey as part of the student body but no cows or other large herbivores, this in turn means that some of you will need to become acquainted with the mowers.

Sunday is Lawn Care Day, for those so inclined to volunteer or those less inclined, to become volunteered. There's two ride-on mowers, don't bother volunteering for those if you're under fifteen. There are also six gas-powered push mowers, and one old-fashioned ribbon-wheel push mower for around the flowerbeds. The more volunteers I get, the quicker it'll get done. And if by some chance everyone's done by mid-afternoon, good ol' Mister Marko has a reputation of rewarding his labor force burgers and beer (if you're of age).

Call dibs here if you want, or find the sign-up sheet by my inbox in the foyer.

Dibs on a riding mower!

...and hey, I wonder if Forge could turbo-charge one. :)

I am supposed to be expiermenting with creating more complex images - do you think that you have a .. diagram of the push mower? I could possibly duplicate it if you did. I am not sure, but it cannot hurt, no?

The problem is that when I try to make a construct out of that, the blades do not turn. The wheels do, but the blades do not, which I believe makes it useless for your purposes?

I will be there in a few minutes.

Under fifteen? So because I'm fifteen I can take a turn on the riding mower?

... cause, um, regular mower + bare feet = mangled feet. I saw a TV movie about that once.

grrr.

You hate the kitchen too? 'Cause people'll need drinks and maybe snackage during/after all that hard work, and I make a good kitchen hand, but not a cook. You make, I carry and clean? It'll keep Meg away from the sharp things.

Hey, I'm just saving meself from horrible magnetic death if Lorna sees her kitchen after me attempting to do stuff in it. Besides, lawnmowers? Noisy and smelly and prone to chopping off bits off the unwary, and there's no magic for replacing parts...

lawnmowers are supposed to chop stuff - or at least grass, you know.

I hate being told I can't do stuff, especially since this is something I know *how* to do!

Y'know, it's kinda scary how many people around here could lend the benefit of experience to this conversation.

I still think I should return my near-death experience to the store and ask for a refund. Mass media promised me a white light and ethereal harp music!

We need t-shirts. "I nearly died and all I got was a cheap special effect." How's that sound?

If I had to choose, I think I'd take the getting shot over the having the life sucked out of me by a black magician. At least there was less of the usual villain-type gloating with the getting shot.

No white light or harps for me either, but I thought that was 'cause pagans were barred from your sort of afterlife? ;)

Half a ton of bricks to the spine = also not fun.

I think technically you're supposed to get ecru light and lutes, yeah. ;)

Near death never is, I think. But yeah, getting a wall dropped on you definitely wouldn't be fun. GLad you've got as many lives as I seem to.

Bugger. I wanted the afterlife with the neon and the electric guitars...

Being shot = Way not fun.

Whoever said anything about the lights and harp music lied. I got a thudding noise and everything went black. No "Come towards the light, Douglas", no dead relatives, nothing. Nada.

Maybe you only get the lights if you're not an idiot. Hrm. This bears thinking - but not expirementing!

If you need to fill up the spare mowers, I think it could be arranged. :) That is, on top of my usual observance of this historic and colorful holiday.

I'm a casual fan of Madrid United.

Not your fault the silly Americans call a game where you pick up the ball with your hands football. ;)

And while I'm posting... I'm not one for mechanical things, especially with sharp bits and a little kid, but I'll volunteer for refuelling people, if I get some help in the kitchen? Drinks and the like?

For those with allergies - medlab has a good supply of anti-histamines.

From: [identity profile] x-kitten.livejournal.com
Wheee, anti-histamines!

What are the chances you have some that won't make me loopy? Cause the drowsy ones make me sleepy-loopy and the non-drowsy ones make me hyper-loopy, but they all make me loopy.

From: [identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
We have all sorts. Including the non-loopy sort. I'm sure we'll have something. Although if you get hayfever in spring, you might want to start drinking a glass of pineapple juice a day - it's good for reducing the symptoms overall, but you have to build up to it.

I'll pitch in, if you're still needing more volunteers. Actually if you're ever wanting help with anything a bit more involved than mowing, give me a shout - I've done a fair amount of work on Cassidy Keep myself over the years, so I'm no stranger to a bit of honest work, and I'd like to make myself a bit more useful round the place.

Are all the ride on mowers taken? If so, I'll take one of the gas powered ones. Gonna need some instruction though, never mowed a lawn in my life.
