But I, of course, am no gentleman.

What I am, however, is the new undisputed bowling champion of the world! Or at least of Salem Center Lanes from 5 to 7 pm last night. It helps that everyone else was either really bad, or bowling with bumpers. Or, like I suspect, intentionally throwing gutter balls so their little sister wouldn't feel bad.

I do regret not having a camera to take a photograph of one purple-haired girl trying to pounce on a 12 pound bowling ball as it headed down the lane.

Did discover that I can bowl just as well with my left arm as with my right. Which boggles me, because even before the accident, I wasn't left-handed.

I am not. You can't be a clumsy martial artist and be any good at it. I just don't know how the throw the ball properly. Why does it always spin backwards even though it's going down the lane?

Low coefficient of drag. A smooth sphere has very little surface area touching the plane at any given time. Thus, the kinetic energy of the forward throw is greater than the coefficient of drag + the torque produced by the backspin inherent to a natural throw. Drag slowly reduces both torque and momentum until torque becomes zero, at which time the ball begins rolling forward instead of sliding. If you had a frictionless bowling lane, the ball could theoretically keep sliding forward while rotating backwards to provide 'braking' torque.

I designed a new braking system for the Jeep based on this principle.

It means, mate, that you're the only Japanese person I have ever met in my life who doesn't do well in games involving a pitched ball. (And since Australia is apparently the closest thing the Japanese Student On A Budget comes to America, that's quite a few. So, omedetou gozaimasu.)
