In light of recent events, all students are asked to change their passwords to unique combinations of numbers and letters not based on a dictionary word.  Please do not keep your passwords where another person could access them easily.

As an addendum, now that I have some few spare moments, here are some helpful guidelines to password security:

1. No fewer than 8 characters.
2. A combination of letters and numbers, and non-alphanumeric characters, if possible.
3. Varied upper and Lower cases can be very helpful.
4. Changing of passwords should be done fairly regularly.

Sir, if you want we can change the program to require that... at least the minimum characters and letter-number combinations. I could write a program to send out regular emails to change passwords too, although personally I hate thoes things...

Thank you, Kitty, on both counts.

For the moment, I'd prefer to leave it to the user's preference... in a large part, I'll have to admit, due to a wish not to end up with more "I forgot my password" notes in my email than I already manage to collect.

If you're looking for something to occupy yourself with though... feel free to write up the code modules and we can slip them into the system at such a time that we decide we'd like them.
